GEORGIA SCIENCE BOWL

The Georgia Science Bowl is a Georgia Junior Science Academy activity for high school students. The competition is based on a question & answer format for teams made up of 4 students.
The winning team at the state level is invited to compete at the national competition. The US Department of Energy created the National Science Bowl® in 1991 to encourage high school students to excel in math and science and to pursue careers in these fields. The Science Bowl is a tournament-style academic competition designed to challenge and recognize students' knowledge in science and mathematics. Students answer questions in the categories of astronomy, biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, earth science and general science in both round robin and double elimination formats. The department supports math and science education to help provide a technically trained and diverse workforce for the agency and the nation.
The National Science Bowl’s corporate sponsors are Bechtel, General Motors, IBM and Texas Instruments. DOE’s Office of Science administers the Science Bowl. Other sponsors of Georgia’s State Science Bowl include Georgia College & State University, The Kaolin Industries and GC&SU’s Science Education Center.
This activity is held annually at GC&SU.
Co-sponsored by the Department of Energy and the Science Education Endowment at GC&SU
