grades 3-8 teachers and field trips to the Natural History Museum and Planetarium for their students.
Educators in
Baldwin, Jones, Hancock, Putnam, and Wilkinson public school districts are
eligible to participate. Fossils to Space is a museum-school project aimed at
engaging teachers and students in paleontology, earth science, and astronomy
through museum and planetarium studies.
Professional Development
Fossils to Space is designed to provide opportunities for science teachers to grow professionally in earth science and astronomy content knowledge and in the use of inquiry science teaching strategies. Science and education faculty with expertise in paleontology, earth science, and astronomy will collaborate to deliver strategies and content knowledge that is aligned with the new Georgia Performance Standards. Hands-on learning activities will help teachers to explore and incorporate a rich variety of activities in the classroom. The professional development program consists of a workshop and field trips for students to the museum and planetarium.

The 2009-10 Fossils to Space Workshop consists of 6 sessions beginning in September 2009.
