Project FOCUS

Project FOCUS places GCSU students with backgrounds in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) into local schools to improve content awareness among grades 4 – 12 school children and their teachers. FOCUS is a service learning course in which GCSU students provide a much-needed service to local schools and, in the process, apply their knowledge in STEM,  learn a little about themselves and about public education.

PRE-MEDICAL CLUB

The Pre-Med Club at GCSU connects and supports students with interests in medical school.

WOMEN IN CHEMISTRY ALLIANCE

The Women in Chemistry Alliance or W.I.C.A., is a comprehensive mentoring program for female students with interests in science. The Alliance supports students interests in science by integrating personal and professional development with experiential learning and scientific citizenry.

PRE-HEALTH HONORS CORPS INITIATIVE (PHCI)

The Pre-Medical Honor Corps Initiative is a statewide partnership between the Medical College of Georgia, seven (7) colleges in Georgia, and the Georgia Statewide AHEC Network. The goal of the PHCI is to increase the number of qualified Georgia students from economically and/or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds for successful entry, matriculation and completion of medical school at the Medical College of Georgia and other institutions.  Among other activities, PHCI participants receive free Kaplan MCAT preparation, shadowing experiences with medical professionals, participation in summer enrichment programs and conferences with medical students and practitioners at the Medical College of Georgia.

The GC&SU PHCI program is coordinated through the Science Education Center.

The PHCI project is funded by the Health Careers Opportunity Program through the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Bureau of Health Professions and is directed by the Office of Educational Outreach & Partnerships at the Medical College of Georgia.
